  1. Latest Int'l Olympic Committee guidance says no athlete should be excluded on grounds of perceived unfair gender advantage
  2. When it comes to the cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan, Harbhajan Singh is often considered to be one of the major contributors to the narrative, especially due to his banter with Shoaib Akhtar. As the two sides find themselves one day away from locking horns in the T20 World Cup 2021, Bhajji went on to express his true feelings about the current Pakistani squad and how he doesn’t see any of the batters in their roster, who he feels, has a chance to take on India in the longest format of the game. View this post on Instagram "There was a time when Pakistan had a very strong team and so did we and that led to some great competitions. In the last 10 years or so, Pakistan's level of cricket, in my opinion, has gone down. No batsman seems to have arrived who makes me feel that they can score consistently in Test cricket," said Harbhajan on Salaam Cricket 2021. "T20 is a format in which anyone can score runs. If I look back at maybe 1998, when Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in an innings, Pakistan had batsmen like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Salim Malik, they had bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq." View this post on Instagram "Today it doesn't look Pakistan can compete with India because they have maybe one or two players of that level in their team. The teams that really push India are England or Australia," he said. While Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar was also present at the stage, the speedster was unable to defend his cricket board’s stance and agreed that their quality of cricket had gone down significantly in the past two decades or so. View this post on Instagram "Our decline came when mediocrity came in our board. Average people thrive a lot in mediocrity. Mediocrity is the killer of Pakistan cricket, they kept bringing in average people, average leaders and we started declining. This has started since 2002. We had someone who played fast, he destroyed everything, then we had someone who played slow and he also destroyed everything. In the middle of all this we couldn't identify out hero. Maybe our hero should have been someone like Mohammad Yousuf,” Akhtar said. "In your country, Sachin (Tendulkar) became the hero, not someone who played fast. Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) followed him. We are trying to smash everything, not playing anything along the ground," he said. This whole interaction led to a lot of fans of the Pakistan cricket team having a sour taste in their mouth and venting their frustration on the internet: india hi shift hoja bhai tu Harbhajan ka sath interview m kutton ki trha zaleel hokar bhi haas raha tha nonsense. — Adeel minhas (@OyeAdi1) October 23, 2021@harbhajan_singh Good sir today you washed a lot Shoaib Akhtar. 3. As the T20 World Cup approaches, the excitement around the marquee tournament has started to increase. Fans and experts across the globe are busy making predictions as to which teams could do wonders at the tournament and return home as the new world champion in the shortest format and which ones could choke. © Twitter ICC The biggest highlight of the tournament is the encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, who are scheduled to take on each other on October 24 in a group clash. Experts around the world believe that India, who will be hosting the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, are among the favourites to win the tournament whereas Pakistan might struggle to leave a mark, because they haven’t had the quality match practice due to New Zealand and England cancelling their tours owing to security concerns. © Reuters While this is the common belief in different parts of the world, it seems like former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq is living in an imaginary world of his own and has no idea what is happening outside his dreamland. Because had he been living in the same world as us, he wouldn’t have passed such a silly statement about Team India. What're your views on Abdul Razzaq's comments?#INDvPAK #T20WC2021 pic.twitter.com/9FGpfblw16 — CricTracker (@Cricketracker) October 5, 2021 Razzaq, who donned the Pakistan jersey between 1996-2013, feels that India can’t compete with Pakistan and that is why they have stopped bi-lateral ties with Pakistan because they are afraid of losing. “I don't think India can compete with Pakistan. The kind of talent Pakistan has is entirely different and this I don't think is a good thing for cricket that India and Pakistan are not having matches,” Razzaq said on ARY News. © Reuters “It used to be an exciting prospect and give players the opportunity to show how much pressure they could handle. So that has gone missing. I feel that had it continued, people would have found out that the kind of talent Pakistan has, India does not,” said the Pak all-rounder who played 46 Tests, 265 ODI and 32 T20Is. There is no harm in thinking highly of your national team but what Razzaq has done here has only made him look like a fool, who is not interested in saying sensible things but only wants to remain in news by passing controversial remarks. © Reuters India has never lost to Pakistan in the World Cup, be it ODI or T20I, by giving such an irresponsible statement ahead of the mega event, he has only made himself a butt of jokes. Wasting no time, Indian supporters slammed the former Pak cricketer left right and centre. While some trolled him using memes, others posted stats reminding him of India’s superior records in the ICC events. 9. The only reason why India is dependent on China for imports primarily has to do with the lack of chip manufacturing units in the country. However, that is about to change as India is now offering more than $1 billion in cash for semiconductor businesses to set up fabrication plants in India. This comes as an effort to compete with China on a larger scale and strengthen the local electronics supply chain according to Reuters. © Reuters “The government will give cash incentives of more than $1 billion to each company which will set up chip fabrication units,” a senior government official told Reuters, on the condition of anonymity. “We’re assuring them that the government will be a buyer and there will also be mandates in the private market (for companies to buy locally made chips).” Even though there aren’t many local fabrication units in India, the country has become the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer after China. However, most components that are used in electronics are usually imported from China and assembled in the country. Setting up fabrication units will not only benefit the smartphone market but other industries as well. Semiconductors are widely used in other products such as cars, household appliances, game consoles, smart TV and even space engineering. The global semiconductor market has been facing shortages due to the world’s dependence on China and Taiwan. This is probably the right time for semiconductor companies to set up fabrication plants in the country since India wants to establish self-reliant suppliers for electronics and the telecom industry. The move should reduce dependence on China after a heated skirmish at the border between the two countries last year. © Wistron India In order for companies to set up fabrication plants in the country, top firms require top of the line infrastructure, stable water supply and support from the government. Previous attempts by India to bring semiconductor players here failed due to the lack of these requirements. However, it seems that the Indian government is now ready to offer everything a semiconductor company needs to set up fabrication plants. The Indian Government estimates that it would cost anywhere around $5-$7 billion to set up a fabrication plant in India and 2-3 years for all approvals to be in place, according to auto industry sources. 10. It all began a long, long time ago. 2014 to be exact - in the early months leading up to Indiaâs most groundbreaking general elections so far. Before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, several social outreach programmes were conducted to cement his influence among the masses - one of them being a campaign called #ChaiPeCharcha. Today, six years on, weâre seeing chai and politics mix once again - just in a very different camp. In a new campaign called âKaam Ki Chaiâ, the Aam Aadmi party has set up chai stalls throughout all of Delhiâs assembly constituencies, with various kinds of tea on offer, each highlighting various achievements and campaign promises of Delhiâs currently reigning party. The campaign was spearheaded by an Ahmedabad MBA-dropout named Praful Billor. Billor, who goes by the moniker âMBA-Chaiwalaâ, contacted the Delhi chief minister directly and offered to spread through the tea stall concept information about the work done by the Kejriwal government. © PTI According to party members, 30-40 volunteers will soon join him and put up tea stalls in all assembly constituencies here. © PTI The first available chai is named shiksha wali chai (education tea), and represents recent work on education facilities and programmes in Delhi, such as mega PTMs (Parent-Teacher Meetings) and the cabinetâs recent approval of a âSports Universityâ, which aims to help train and develop world-class athletes. Another variety named swasthya wali chai (health tea) represents the partyâs work on improving healthcare facilities in the capital for government hospitals, and initiatives such as free tests, surgeries and medicines, mohalla clinics and poly-clinics. The third kind, âspecial teaâ aims to highlight special subsidies such as cheap electricity, water and free bus/metro travel for women - while the last kind, vikas wali chai (development tea) focuses on the governmentâs doorstep delivery of citizen services, free Wi-Fi schemes and installation of CCTV cameras. © BCCL While Billor seems to clearly have a favourite, he insists that he is not directly associated with any political party and simply wishes to support good work being done. He said he decided to come all the way from Ahmedabad to put up a tea stall here as he believes that Kejriwal has delivered good governance in Delhi, which "is evident on the ground and needs no promotion". 11. The Nintendo Switch has been having a very successful run ever since it launched in 2017 and the console will probably dominate in 2020 as well. Even in India, the console has managed to outsell the Xbox One, even though the Nintendo Switch does not officially sell in India. According to the MakoReactor, “Industry estimates peg the Nintendo Switch lifetime to date sales to be above 50,000 in India” and this is based on a conservative estimate. © Dbrand/Youtube However, in 2020, both Microsoft and Sony will be launching their next generation of consoles by Christmas and Nintendo will have to introduce a new updated console to keep the competition heated. It has been long rumoured that Nintendo has been working on a “Pro” and “Lite” model where the latter launched in late 2019. The analyst who accurately predicted the “Lite” model of the Nintendo Switch believes the “Pro” model will launch sometime in 2020. "Switch will again be the best selling console during the year," says Piers Harding-Rolls of IHS Markit Technology, who has been speaking to gamesindustry.biz. He went on to say that "2020 is also set to be Switch's best hardware sales performance since launch. The Switch Lite will launch in mainland China.” © Youtube It is currently uncertain when the Pro model of the Nintendo Switch will launch, however, we can expect to see upgraded hardware for better performance in games. “There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will launch a "Switch Pro" in 2020, my guess is at $399,” said Harding-Rolls. "More specifically, I predict 4K support, bigger cartridge sizes, and of course beefed-up components. I also think the device will launch after the summer holidays to counter the roll-out of the PS5 and next-gen Xbox later in the year - along with a first-party, system-seller game. I predict 4K support, bigger cartridge sizes, and of course beefed-up components. I also think the device will launch after the summer holidays to counter the roll-out of the PS5 and next-gen Xbox later in the year - along with a first-party, system-seller game” he said. © Nintendo The more powerful Switch Pro could deliver games at 4K resolution at 30 FPS with upscaling and boosted performance for older games. At the moment, Switch's Tegra X1 processor can't really keep up with the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One due to which the “Pro” model might be in the works. The Switch model will be able to even out this difference with better hardware. Having said that, it is possible that the next console may be a dedicated console-only box and not offer the portability feature. Sure, it may not suit the “Switch” name but the Switch Lite already breaks the branding as it cannot be docked. It remains to be seen when Nintendo plans to launch the new console or whether these are all rumours and it simply does not exist. As of now, we can only speculate what the console could be and wait for the official announcement later this year. Source: gamesindustry.biz View the full article
  12. Samsung has been making innovative smartphones and if the leaks are to be believed, the tech giant is going to launch a new foldable smartphone in February 2020. However, a new leak shows off two smartphones by the South Korean company that have been requested by fans for years. When the Galaxy S10 launched, Samsung launched a cheaper Galaxy S10e variant for customers who did not want all the bells and whistles. And now, a new leak from The Korea Herald suggests that Samsung will be launching two smartphones with “Lite” branding. © MensXP_Akshhay Bhalla The two smartphones in question are the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite that have leaked in the past a few times already. The Galaxy S10 Lite will be an upgrade from the Galaxy S10e as it will come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chipset. Other specifications include 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, a 6.7-inch OLED display and a triple-camera setup at the back. The primary sensor is rumoured to be a 48-megapixel shooter coupled with other sensors. © Twitter_Slashgear The Note 10 Lite is expected to also have similar specifications with a lower price tag and will compete with the iPhone 11/iPhone XR. Both handsets are expected to launch in India by January 2020 and will be unveiled at CES 2020. It would be interesting to see how these smartphones would perform and how Samsung manages to make these smartphones more affordable. For now, we can only speculate that both smartphones will come with a less high-end OLED panel and a less-premium build compared to the 2019 Galaxy smartphones. We can only know for sure once Samsung launches the two smartphones officially, therefore until then we suggest you take these rumours with a grain of salt. 13. Sony Mobile, the smartphone division of the Japanese company is now going to be pulling out from India and other regions. The move comes when Sony experienced fewer smartphone sales than the previous year and will be stopping its mobile business in India, Australia, Canada, South America, Mexico, Africa and the Middle East. Sony has been trying to cut its losses and the company will now concentrate its mobile business in countries like Japan, Europe, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The Xperia mobile division has also been dismantled and formed into a new division called “Electronics, Products and Solutions” and has been merged with TV, Audio and camera divisions. © Sony The company is also cutting its operational cost by 50% by pulling out of markets that are not deemed profitable for the company. The company has suffered low smartphone sales in key markets due to stiff competition from Chinese companies that offer better smartphones at a considerably low price. According to Counterpoint Research, Sony's smartphone market share was reduced to less than 1% and was probably due to making outdated smartphones. Sony was not able to adopt new technologies, features and even hardware in order to compete with its Chinese counterparts. © Slashhleaks Sony recently announced the Xperia 1, the world's first 4K smartphone at MWC earlier this year. No release date has been confirmed by the company and it is likely that the smartphone will not launch in India and other markets the company has decided to pull out from. Source: GSMArena
  14. The fitness industry is booming and along with it, there are a number of fitness expos held across the country. With these tens of expos, there are at least twenty different bodybuilding shows that happen every year. Every passing year, the number of federations or competitions is increasing as a lot of youngsters want to become bodybuilders. Competing in a bodybuilding show is not wrong, but it is important for you to know a few things before you consider stepping on that stage: 1. It Will Take A Lot More Than Just Having Abs These days, anyone who has abs thinks they are meant for the bodybuilding stage. The fact is, 90 per cent of them are not. Having abs or being lean vs. being shredded are two different things. Bodybuilding means having great overall muscularity, having a balanced physique, being presentable, and being shredded. Just because you have abs does not mean you have to be on stage. If you want to compete, ensure that you have all of the above things to stand a chance. 2. The Prep Sucks Bodybuilding prep is not easy. There will be times you are angry, frustrated, hungry, and exhausted. There will be days where you will not even feel like moving from your bed too. There will be cravings. But these are the times you will have to suck it up and do what needs to be done. It is mentally stressful and can even affect your relationships. So, if you are not in a place to handle all these other pressures, doing a show may end up being one of the worst decisions of your life. © Unsplash 3. There Will Be A Lot Of Fake Natties 'Natural bodybuilding' has either become an elite thing or a joke. I honestly cannot decide. I leave it up to you. The reason I say this is because there are shows that claim to be 'natural' for aspiring natural bodybuilders, however, they are anything but natural. Just having the tag 'natural' after the show's name does not mean jack! Natural federations check their athletes thoroughly and randomly throughout the year. The shows held here in India do not do anything of the sort and are often seen firing the promoters the next year as the 'promoter' tested positive for drugs. 4. You Will Be Forgotten Most of the bodybuilding shows in India are just businesses. Every year, three to five new bodybuilding shows are introduced. They make new promises and take higher entry fees every passing year. You pay it, you get done, and that is that. Hardly are there good prizes in most shows and competitors are rising by the 100s every year. Even if you win a show, there is a great chance that nobody will remember you the next year, unless you are competing at a very high level. The entry level or novice shows are hardly remembered or even cared about. © Pixabay 5. Politics Exists In bodybuilding shows, you will fight politics at every level between federations, between promoters, between judges! I have personally seen competitors winning shows where they outright ignored judging calls and should have been disqualified within a minute of stepping on stage. I have seen the best guy not placing even in the top 5. Now, this would be a personal bias but you could check it out when you go and watch a show. The politics is real and even if you end up being the best athlete, there is a good chance you are going home empty handed. So ask yourself the question, is all of this worth competing in a show? If your answer is still yes, you should totally do a show. 15. There is a common fallacy surrounding bodybuilding that short men and bodybuilding are not well-matched. However, it has been proven wrong by many great men and successful bodybuilders like James “Flex” Lewis, Lee Priest and Franco Columbu. But in this article, we are not talking about an average short-heighted guy. We are talking about Flavio Baccianini who is the shortest Pro Bodybuilder on record to ever make it to the Mr. Olympia Stage. © Facebook He stands tall at 4 Foot and 10 inches and his on stage weight was in between 66 to 72 kilograms. It is not easy to become a Pro Bodybuilder with average height but it becomes exceptionally challenging when you are just 4'10”. © Facebook, muscletime Flavio has seen many ups and downs in his bodybuilding career and, at one point, he even said that bodybuilding is a waste of time in an interview. The odds were not in his favor and there was nothing that he can do about his height. But beating all the challenges and overcoming all the obstacles, Flavio made his debut in the European Championships WABBA and stood 3rd in the competition. In 1983, he won the world championships of WABBA and then shifted to IFBB in 1988. He participated in many events in the IFBB but his best achievement was coming second in Olympia – Masters IFBB in 1999. © Facebook Even though he was not able to get a podium finish, he got the attention of the entire bodybuilding community when he posed with Lou Ferrigno. © Facebook Lou was 6 ft and 5 inches and was considered one of the tallest bodybuilders at the time. His on stage weight was 137 kilogram which is more than twice of Flavio. Lou and Flavio were great friends which is evident from the photos of the 1999 Masters Olympia where Lou was captured choking Flavio with his giant biceps. Flavio placed 13th in this competition beating 10 guys. But unfortunately, Flavio could never win a single Pro show during his entire IFBB career. © Facebook Yash Sharma is a former national level Football player, now a Strength Coach, Nutritionist and Natural Bodybuilder. 16. It's a sad day for gamers. In fact, a sad day for young gaming professionals who would compete with each other to test their skills. Two gamers and perhaps multiple others were killed and injured at a mass shooting in Florida, United States. The tournament was for a Madden 19 tournament at the GLHF Game Bar in Jacksonville, Florida. © Twitch Madden is a popular game developed by Electronic Arts, the same company that makes the extremely popular Fifa series. Like the Fifa games, Madden also garners a highly competitive community that likes to test their skill against other players. The incident took place in the middle of the qualifying round and reportedly has left at least four dead, one of which was the shooter who appears to have shot himself. Witnesses claim there were at least two shooters. The motive for the shooting has not been confirmed yet; however, a fellow competitor claimed that the shooter was a fellow player who had been knocked out of the tournament and sought revenge. © Twitch The entire gaming community such as developers, companies and fellow gamers in general have expressed their solidarity for the victims of this incident: OFFICIAL NFL STATEMENT: We are shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific tragedy today in Jacksonville. 17. Remember 'Djarum Black'? The black-coloured clove cigarettes that initially looked cool to smoke and made you stand out, until you realised your folks could smell its strong stench from a mile away. Often labelled as a rich man's Gudang Garam, they are almost available at every roadside shop in India today. But, have you wondered where it came from? I was almost under the impression that it was being manufactured at some shady factory in Andhra Pradesh. However, it's not. 'Djarum Black' - also known as 'kreteks' - are imported from Indonesia - one of the biggest exporters of clove cigarettes, cigars and hand-rolled bidis in the world. It is manufactured by Indonesia's famous Djarum Group which was founded by an ethnic Chinese businessman in Kudus (Central Java) in 1951. Oei Wie Gwan bought a nearly defunct cigarette company known as NV Murup and gave birth to the brand Djarum we all know today. But, the company also went extinct in 1963 when a huge fire destroyed its factory which was followed by Gwan's death. © Twitter The death of Djarum Group's owner paved way for his children Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono who took over the reins and re-established their brand. Today, Djarum Group has around 50 blends of clove cigarettes internationally and is the world's third-largest manufacturer of clove cigarettes. The company has an estimated net worth of over $11 billion, while Hartono family's net worth is estimated to be around $16.7 billion (according to Forbes). But, the Hartono family isn't in news for their commercial interests in tobacco, banking and communications amongst others, rather it is Gwan's son Michael whose much-anticipated participation in the 2018 Asian Games, slated to begin from 18th August in Jakarta & co-hosted in Palembang, that has got the media attention. Michael, the 78-year-old billionaire tobacco tycoon and the richest man in Indonesia, is set to represent his country on its bridge team at the world's second-biggest multi-sport event. Classified as a 'mind game', contract bridge is a card game that is played with a standard 52-card deck. In its basic format, it is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. © Twitter The game consists of several deals - each progressing through four phases. The cards are dealt to the players, and then the players auction or bid to take the contract, specifying how many tricks the partnership receiving the contract (the declaring side) needs to take to receive points for the deal. During the auction, partners communicate information about their hand, including its overall strength and the length of its suits, although conventions for use during play also exist. The cards are then played, the declaring side trying to fulfil the contract, and the defenders trying to stop the declaring side from achieving its goal. The deal is scored based on the number of tricks taken, the contract, and various other factors which depend to some extent on the variation of the game being played. Well, it's more of a mystery to me who has never been able to get a hold of any card game (including childish Uno). But, what's interesting here is the fact that contract bridge has been included to the Games by Indonesia as hosts. And, it appears that Michael Hartono played a crucial role in convincing a sceptical Olympic Council of Asia to gove the card game its maiden run at the Asian Games. I guess, when you are the richest man in the country, it doesn't really take much convincing, does it. © Twitter Hartono's association to bridge reportedly dates back to the tender age of six. He has also competed several times in the World Bridge Championships and now aims to strike gold for his country at the Asian Games. But, the tobacco king, claims he isn't doing it for money, but for the passion he has for bridge. In fact, Hartono has announced that he'll forego the 1.5 billion rupiah ($102,000) cash prize that the Indonesian government has promised to award to its top medallists at the Games. "If I managed to win gold, I would donate the government's cash prize to the athletes training program," he was quoted as saying by domestic news agency Antara. Apart from his rich background and passion for bridge, Hartono narrowly missed out on being the oldest player to compete at this year's Asian Games. Malaysia's Lee Hung Fong - the 81-year-old who'll compete against Hartono in contract bridge - has claimed the unique feat with his participation. Fong is seven decades older than the youngest athlete - nine-year-old Indonesian skateboarder Aliqqa Novvery Kayyisa - at this year's edition of the Games.
